In China "Three Teachings" indicate three major East Asian traditions of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. Taoism (or Daoism) refers to a variety of related philosophical and religious traditions and concepts that have influenced China for over two millennia and the West for over two centuries. The word, Tao means 'path' or 'way', although in Chinese folk religion and philosophy it has taken on more abstract meanings. Taoist propriety and ethics emphasize the Three Jewels of the Tao: compassion, moderation, and humility. Taoist thought generally focuses on nature, men-cosmos correspondence health, longevity, wu wei (action through inaction), liberty, and spontaneity. Buddhism, derived from the Pali and Sanskrit, encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices, largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as the Buddha. Adherents recognize the Buddha as an awakened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end suffering, achieve nirvana, and escape what is seen as a cycle of suffering and rebirth. Confucianism is a Chinese ethical and philosophical system developed from the teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius. It focuses on human morality and wrong action. It is a complex system of moral, social, political, philosophical, and quasi-religious thought that has had tremendous influence on the culture and history of East Asia. It might be considered a state religion of some East Asian countries, because of governmental promotion of Confucian values. Here we list some improtant classics for people to read and understand their doctrine:

Tao Te Ching

Chuang Tzu and Lieh Tzu
